Chronicle of the Goblin – Spring 2025
It seems that the korrigans have a keen ear. Very keen.
And that morning, it was a strange noise that woke Diben up:
"Clop… clop… clop…"
— “They are not boots, nor rain… they are… clogs!”
It’s official: four horses have just arrived at Lutin Pommé!
They set down their hooves yesterday, on 14th June 2025! gently exploring our 5,000 m² meadow, once overrun with wild grasses.
This new partnership with Julie, a resident of Mellé like us, fills us with joy.
We have established a loan agreement together to accommodate his horses in a timely manner and with respect for the land.
They will stay for 2 to 4 weeks depending on their appetite, then they will go off to explore other meadows... before returning to us approximately every month, giving nature time to catch its breath.
🐎 Introductions of the new tenants
There are four of them, all different, all endearing:
- Eddie, the only male in the group, is a chestnut horse (copper-red colour). He is calm, gentle, and gelded.
- Khary, a dark bay mare with a wise gaze, always attentive.
- Lightning, a speckled mare, as lively as she is curious, certainly lives up to her name!
- And the youngest: N’Amour, a black mare, full of energy and mischief, who is only 5 years old.
They are often seen grazing silently or rolling in the dirt, enjoying the tranquility of the place and the freedom provided by the mobile electric fence installed by Julie.
🌱 A lively meadow and a nourished vegetable garden
In addition to bringing the landscape to life, these horses provide us with a tremendous service: they naturally maintain the land while producing... manure!
Which we carefully collect to fertilise our vegetable garden in preparation for the upcoming seasons.
A simple, local, and meaningful virtuous circle.
And sometimes, Julie comes to go pony riding with our daughter Louise, along the hiking path that runs right in front of the cottage.
A little bit of everyday happiness, shared between laughter, windblown manes and muddy boots.
✨ And Diben in all this?
Diben didn't say much.
But he was apparently seen sitting on an old tree trunk, watching Eddie thoughtfully.
Apparently he understands their language, even the quietest whinnies.
He says that these horses are guardians of passage, messengers of the soil, come to awaken the earth.
The children say that they saw a small red figure running in the meadow after Lightning.
But was it really Diben? Or was it just a bramble dancing in the wind? Who knows...
💡 Some rules for our visitors
If you have the chance to stay with us during the presence of the horses, please respect these few guidelines:
- Do not give them anything to eat, even if it seems trivial to you. Their diet is closely monitored.
- Do not cross the fence, even if it seems to be off.
- Watch them from the path or the hedge, quietly. They are curious... but a little shy!
And if you bump into Julie and Louise on the path while out for a walk, don't hesitate to greet them.
Perhaps even Louise will give you each person's name — or a secret whispered by Diben.
🍃 A simple story, but not ordinary
This partnership is much more than a practical agreement.
It is a local, vibrant, respectful adventure.
A natural way to take care of our land, to pass on simple values, and to share a piece of enchanted countryside with those who come to settle in at the Lutin Pommé.
And if one morning, you are awakened by a faint "clop... clop..." at the back of the garden...
It’s that the guardians have returned.
