For the past few days, a new ritual has been taking hold of the mornings at the lodge. We hear soft chuckles, little footsteps hurrying through the straw, and sometimes... children's laughter, bowls in hand.
Because yes, four chickens have taken up residence at Au Lutin Pommé. And not just any chickens!
🥚 The new feathered inhabitants
🩵 The Cream Legbar – the blue egg fairy
With her dreamy look and soft feathers, she lays in the nest eggs that reflect the sky and moss.
🤍 The two Leghorns – the dazzling young ladies
Always on the move, they lay eggs of such pure white that they look like pearls hidden beneath the leaves.
🤎 The Marans – the chocolate lady
Silent, observant, she leaves behind chestnut-coloured eggs, as if taken from an autumn tale.
🍽️ A task after the meal: feeding the chickens (if you want)
Diben gently reminds him: the compost bin is for compost. Not for everything the chickens like.
But if the children want to help, they can, after the meal, prepare a small bowl just for them, carefully selecting the good leftovers, while the adults clear the table.
✅ What chickens really like:
- 🥕 Simple vegetable peelings (carrots, zucchini, beets, etc.)
- 🍎 Peels or pieces of soft fruit (apples, pears, bananas – without the skin!)
- 🍝 A little rice or plain pasta
- 🍞 Hard bread in pieces (not too many)
- 🥚 Well crushed eggshells
- 🌿 Clover, dandelions, tops...
Diben loves to see them do it, but he tolerates no forgetfulness!
❌ To definitely not give:
- ☕ Coffee grounds, tea bags
- 🍋 Citrus fruits, garlic, onion
- 🧂 Savory, sweet, and sauced foods
- 🍖 Meat, fish, cheese
- 🧃 Liquid or mouldy remains
- ❌ And above all… nothing that would go in the trash!
🧚♂️ Magic is also about learning
Feeding the chickens is not mandatory. But it is a lovely way to discover, care for, and understand nature.
And sometimes, in return, the hens leave an egg…
Blue, white, or chocolate brown. A real treasure.
