🌾 Discreet Neighbors – The Wildlife Around the Apple-Spangled Elf
The Apple-Spangled Elf isn't the only one who enjoys the peace and quiet of La Martais.
Almost every morning, at dawn or in the evening, does and roe deer cross the fields or venture into the woods below. Sometimes alone, sometimes in small groups, they stop, listen... and disappear silently into the mist or the low light.
🦌 Roe deer and does: the dawn visitors
These apparitions are always suspended moments.
Whether you see them from the cottage window or during a morning walk, these wild animals remind you that nature here is still free and alive.
🐾 And for the most attentive... other surprises
📍 While walking in the woods or along the hedgerows, you might come across:
- 🦊 A fox, scuttling at dawn, red and silent, between two thickets,
- 🐿️ A red squirrel, hopping from branch to branch in the old trees along the path,
- 🐗 A wild boar, rarely visible but often guessed by its tracks: turned soil, freshly stirred earth...
Most of the time, they are more easily guessed than revealed. And that's the charm of their presence: knowing they're there, without always seeing them.
🐦 An area rich in birds
Here, at the crossroads of Ille-et-Vilaine, Mayenne and Normandy, the hedged landscapes and natural hedges offer a privileged refuge to numerous species of birds:
- tits, robins, goldfinches,
- warblers, green or great spotted woodpeckers,
- buzzards, kites or owls depending on the time of day...
In the morning, the songs mingle. In the evening, sometimes, a hoot echoes in the distance.
🌿 A corner of nature still alive
The lodge is located on the border of three departments, in an area that remains largely wooded and peaceful. Here, animals roam freely, birds nest in the hedges, and visitors can still marvel at a discreet rustling or a furtive glance.
✨ And Diben, in all this?
He, too, observes. Hidden under a leaf, melted into the bark, or simply sitting silently under an apple tree, he knows all the locals. And sometimes, they're the ones who tell him their stories...
